Understanding eyelid surgery
Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that removes excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It can be performed for cosmetic reasons or to improve vision if drooping upper eyelids obstruct the field of view.
Upper blepharoplasty addresses hooded or drooping upper lids. Lower blepharoplasty addresses puffiness, bags, or excess skin under the eyes. Both can be performed together.
When performed for functional reasons (such as obstructed vision), the procedure may be eligible for Medicare rebates. Your GP can advise on whether a referral is appropriate.

What to expect after surgery
Cold compresses applied regularly. Eyes may feel tight, dry, or watery. Bruising and swelling around the eyes. Keep head elevated when resting.
Stitches removed. Bruising at its peak then begins to fade. Eyes may be sensitive to light and wind. Eye drops used as directed.
Most bruising concealable with makeup. Swelling continuing to reduce. Many return to work and social activities.
Eyes looking noticeably more open and refreshed. Residual swelling continues to settle. Light exercise can resume.
Incision lines fading into the natural eyelid creases. Full activity can resume.
Final result apparent. Scars are typically imperceptible within the eyelid crease. Any residual dryness usually resolved.
What does eyelid surgery cost?
We know. Crazy range, right?
How can there possibly be such a big difference? Because every quote includes different things. Surgeon fees, hospital costs, anaesthetist, implants, aftercare. Some quotes bundle everything. Others add extras later.
Everyone is looking for something different, and we factor that in when we support you. We help you compare quotes like for like so you know exactly what you are paying for.
Your concierge breaks down every quote and explains the differences so you can compare with confidence.
Indicative range depending on whether upper, lower, or both eyelids are treated, the surgeon, and the anaesthesia type. Medicare may contribute for functional upper blepharoplasty. Always request a full itemised breakdown.
The things people actually worry about
Eyelid surgery is subtle but the decisions are not as simple as they seem
Upper lids, lower lids, or both. Cosmetic, functional, or both. Whether Medicare applies or not. Your Pirk concierge helps you understand what you are actually being quoted for.
If your concern is functional (obstructed vision), there is a Medicare pathway that requires specific documentation. We help you understand the process before you start.
Blepharoplasty is sometimes recommended alongside brow lift or other procedures. Understanding whether these additions are genuinely needed or adding unnecessary cost is something your concierge can help you assess.
This is one of the most cost-effective facial procedures, but pricing still varies. We help you compare quotes and understand what is included in each one.
How Pirk helped with eyelid surgery
“I spent weeks trying to figure out which surgeon to go with for my eyelid surgery. Pirk took all of that off my plate. They shortlisted surgeons I never would have found on my own, explained the differences clearly, and were there every time I had a question. I walked into my consultation feeling prepared instead of anxious.”
Individual experiences vary. This reflects one client's experience with Pirk, not a surgical outcome.
